H.E. Diene Kieta, Deputy Executive Director, Programme of the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA)

I am a native of Guinea, hold a Doctorate in Law from Sorbonne University in Paris, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude. I also hold a Diploma in Advanced Studies (DEA) in International Economics and Development Law from Rene Descartes University; Paris 5 and Masters in Economic and Social Administration.

Being Passionate about development, I was first recruited by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1990. Also a well seasoned expert in Development issues.

I have worked extensively on inclusive growth, sustainable human development, young and adolescent leadership, Family planning issues and Gender based violence in humanitarian settings.

I was appointed as representative in the Federal Republic of Nigeria in June 2017. I have successfully worked in Niger, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Burundi, and in Senegal where I occupied multiples positions at the heart of UNDP operations.

In addition, I served at UNDP Headquarters as Evaluation Advisor, and also served as the Chief of UNDP liaison Office in the Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and to the African Union in Addis Ababa before joining the United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA) as representative in Mauritania from 2006 to 2010

And then in Benin from 2010 to 2014 and continued in that position from 2013 in serving as well as the interim United Nations Resident Coordinator for Benin until my departure to take a new position as Head of UNFPA in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in June 6, 2014.

I am married and mother of a young adult.
